| Many manufacturers require
and all horizontal attic furnaces should have sheet metal on combustible
plywood service flooring in front of the louvered covers for fire
protection and flame roll-out protection as recommend by the Consumer
Product Safety Commission due to the risk. |

| Furnace and water heater
vent flue pipes should have a minimum 1" clearance to combustible
material for double-wall type B gas vents and 6" for single wall. |
|
| Damaged vent flue pipes
should be replaced to prevent exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide
from entering the home and potentially injuring the occupants. |
|
| Gas piping should be properly secured
in place to prevent excessive movement during earthquakes. This is
especially important where connected to flexible gas connectors which
are easily broken. |
|
| Air conditioning circuit
breakers and fuses must be matched according to the manufacturers
specifications, however with different condensers for various floor
plans, the fuses and breakers often exceed the maximum rating on the
label which can allow a surge to damage a $1500 condenser instead
of a $5 fuse. |
